You have just landed in the flat-coated land of Honkanummi.

Honkanummi is a paradise for our dogs in Kuusjoki, near the city of Salo – 'a wonderland' where you literally live 'as if in a field' – the dogs run free in the woodland and swim in the river – meaning they are dirty, wet and happy all the time :)

Our family of dogs includes four 'duracell bunnies' – flat-coated retrievers Eetu, Veeti, Luna and Leevi.

Our 'flatmania' started in the fall of 2003, when we decided to get our first flat-coated retriever Eetu from the Majakkasaaren kennel, in Kaarina. We can also blame the breeder – Minna Latva (in a positive way of course) – for us getting into dog shows and other dog-related hobbies. In the spring of 2006 – we had another strike of ‘flat-fever', when we received our second flat-coated retriever, Veeti. Veeti is from the kennel Pikestar's. Luna came in to our 'herd' in February 2008. She lived in Jääli until she was six months old, but had to move back south because of her first owner's allergies. The fourth member of our dogfamily is Leevi. He is Eetu's son and joined in our family in May 2008.

And why, oh why, would we want to get a flat-coated retriever anyway? Well, to begin with, our enthusiasm is based on the retriever's beauty and liveliness. And oh boy, oh boy, we've had plenty of that! But in the end, a flat-coated retriever is a wonderful dog: energetic, pleasant, nice, gentle, a practical 'kissing-machine', obedient, inventive and lots of other things... In a way, a flat-coated retriever is also a demanding and a challenging dog: sometimes a little bit impatient and hard-headed, but our choice hasn't made us regret it so far. Our dogs have surely whisked our hearts away!
